Meet the Three Crowns Crew: Connor Brandt, Graphic Designer

We’re back with another “Meet the Team” blog! Get to know our Graphic Designer Connor Brandt!

Connor Brandt is a graphic designer and musician from Omaha, NE.

Sometimes he writes in third person.

I’ve been doing design in some form or another since I first opened Microsoft Paint at age 12. I like to think I’ve improved since then.

Just like Zach, I’m also the frontman in a band. Not so special now, huh? You can catch The Real Zebos tearing up stages in Omaha or any Midwest city where nobody knows who we are.

Here are some things I like: maps, songs, logos, flags, long walks in residential neighborhoods, movie theaters, Halloween, and root beer floats (not necessarily in that order).

Read on to learn more about Connor’s life as a Nebraska native, musician, and dog dad.

Alright, rockstar. What’s your favorite song and why?

An impossible question that I’ll never be able to answer. One contender is “Army” by Ben Folds Five. It was hugely influential when it comes to informing how I write my own music and I don’t think it will ever get old.

What’s your secret talent?

It wouldn’t be a secret if I told you, right?

When I was a kid I was obsessed with flags, so I feel confident that I could correctly identify any international or US state flag. Okay, maybe at least 90%.

Think of an item that has special importance to you. What is it and why is it meaningful?

It feels silly to say it, but it would have to be my laptop. It has all my art, all my music, a million notes of thoughts and ideas. Which reminds me that I really, really am overdue to back everything up on a hard drive.

You’re stuck on an island and you can bring one famous person with you (who’s not a survivalist). Who are you bringing?

I think Nick Offerman is a safe choice. He seems close enough to a survivalist to be useful, would be able to socialize, but also knows the value of peace and quiet.

Where are you from and how did you end up in Omaha?

I’m originally from Ponca, Nebraska. I came to Omaha for college and have been here since.

If you could learn any other language, which would you choose and why?

I pick Italian because I think it would be the most fun to speak. It makes everything sound either really beautiful or really funny.

What’s your go-to drink or snack while working?

Coffee in the morning, and usually some healthy (looking) energy drink in the afternoon. Or more coffee. Also, water at all times, of course.

What sparks your creativity?

Seeing someone else make great work always inspires me. I also love to draw inspiration from several different sources and bring them together to create something that didn’t exist before. I love making collage art for that reason.

What’s a 2023 goal you have that’s not work-related?

Well, I did have a goal to dunk a basketball since it’s been a few years since I’ve played and I thought I’d have to put in a lot of work. However – I’m not making this up – I tried recently and did it on my first try. Unfortunately I didn’t learn any lessons about hard work or perseverance.

What does a day in your life as a Graphic Designer look like?

I have quite a bit of variety in my workload – including websites, fact sheets, digital ads, and more – but my favorite is when I get to work on branding for a client, whether it be syncing up brand guidelines or creating a whole new brand from scratch. This can be the most challenging but also the most rewarding.
