Tips for boosting your “About” page
What should career paths look like for advisors? For a long time, advisors kind of got thrown to the cold-calling wolves. We’re sorry if you got brought up that way but it’s not a super healthy way to begin a career in an industry built primarily on trust.
As the role and function of an advisor has changed, though, so too has the best way for young advisors to build up their careers. And one of the best ways is through the integration of associate advisors.
In this insightful post from Kitces.com, Penny Phillips of Journey Strategic Wealth dives into practical ways to onboard and develop new associate advisors. If your firm is growing with talent, it’s a must-read.
Cut the Cold-Calling
Hedge fund Impactive Capital owns 7% of Envestnet’s shares and they are not happy about the firm’s performance relative to the overall stock market.
They’re so unhappy, in fact, that they’ve published a letter that if they don’t get a seat on the board of directors now, they’ll stage a proxy fight next year to get it.
The root of their complaint is that the stock market has gone up but Envestnet’s leadership has poorly mismanaged the firm’s growth to the point where their shareholders have gotten basically no return.
The letter itself has some decent jabs — including one about Envestnet’s recent ad campaign featuring Spongebob Squarepants. But we can’t imagine leadership at Envestnet will be all too thrilled about handing out a board seat after such a public brouhaha.
Who Lives in a Pineapple Under Envestnet?
We were excited to see this week that LPL advisors can now use Holistiplan for tax planning suggestions and deliverables. There’s a stereotype that the “big guys” are too slow to keep up with the latest and greatest tech, so it’s great to see literally the largest broker-dealer in the country arming their advisors with an up-and-coming tool like Holistiplan.
Let’s Talk About Tax, Baby
The “About” page is one of the most popular pages on advisor websites. People want to know who you are, where you’re from, why you’re an advisor – everything. The more they know you, the more they trust you, so it’s worth investing some time in making your “About” page really shine.
In this article, Andy Crestodina from Orbit Media shows you exactly what your page needs to include and how it should look. Highly recommended!
