Meet the Three Crowns Crew: Zach McDonald, President and CMO

It’s our final (for now) Meet the Team – and we may have saved the best for last. Take a moment to get acquainted with Three Crowns’ President and CMO, Zach McDonald!

I’ve spent my life in education, journalism, and now finance. Before coming to Three Crowns I served as the Analytics Director at Carson Group and Editorial Director at Mineral Interactive.

I’ve been in bands my whole life and you can still catch me fronting my band, Briner, on the weekends in Omaha bars. If you like alternative rock from the 90s, we’ll be easy listening.

I’m pretty crazy about my wife and four kids. For all the difficulties presented by being a husband/father, the rewards make it totally worth it.

What’s your favorite song and why?

“Many Rivers to Cross” by Harry Nilsson. I feel like my favorite song changes every week or so. This one’s been heavy in the rotation lately.

What’s your secret talent?

I can think of a 30 Rock reference for every situation.

(Everyone in the office can confirm this.)

Think of an item that has special importance to you. What is it and why is it meaningful?

My watch. It reminds me of a watch I remember my dad having when I was young. I’ve had it for a long time. It tells the time and nothing else.

You’re stuck on an island and you can bring one famous person with you (who’s not a survivalist). Who are you bringing?

Will Ferrell. I think he’d be pretty chill about being stuck on an island, and we’d have a good time.

Where are you from and how did you end up in Omaha?

When I graduated from college in 2007, I still had to do a writing internship to complete my degree. I applied all over the country and the first job I got was at a small town newspaper in the suburbs of Omaha, and I’ve been here ever since!

If you could learn any other language, which would you choose and why?

Latin. I’m fascinated by words, and so many of our languages were built on Latin.

What’s your go-to drink or snack while working?

Fizzy water and Life Savers.

What sparks your creativity?

Seeing other people being creative. I love going to conferences and hearing people talk about their crazy ideas or how they overcame obstacles.

What’s a 2023 goal you have that’s not work-related?

Buy a house. My wife and I sold our house last year and I’ve been living in my in-laws’ basement ever since. It’s been great, but we’re ready to have our own space again!

What does a day in your life as President at Three Crowns look like?

A day in my life consists of reviewing stuff others have written, creating outlines, planning content and meeting with clients.
