Happy Halloweekend! 🎃
Facebook is Meta now (at least their parent company is). Whoopty doo. Let’s get to some real news in the real world.
Must-Read Financial Industry & Marketing Articles
Liz Skinner Leaves InvestmentNews to Join HighTower
Liz Skinner, editor of InvestmentNews, is getting out of publishing to join HighTower Advisors, which has been assembling quite the high-powered team the last several years. We’re already big fans of the HighTower marketing team (led by veterans like Meghan McCartan and Kirsten Ly) and the addition of Skinner gives the company another high-powered personality to fuel their impressive growth.
Altruist and Riskalyze Announce Integration
Riskalyze has long been an innovator and leader in advisor technology. One of the reasons we love them so much is because of their focus on user experiences and creating software that’s fun to use and easy on the eyes—and the same can be said of Altruist. This integration between the two feels so good, though, because they share a common focus on delivering out-of-this-world service to advisors. Integrations aren’t a cure-all, but this will be a boost to advisors on the Altruist platform.
ThinkAdvisor Luminaries
We look forward to the ThinkAdvisor Luminaries every year, if only because we’re excited to celebrate with our friends who make the list. This year, we want to give a big congratulations to Manish Khatta from Potomac Fund Management. Potomac’s growth has been nothing short of explosive under Manish’s leadership and he’s someone who isn’t shy to share his opinions, whether they’re popular or not.
Measuring the Impact of Your Content
Content marketing is about building a solid foundation that you can use to market your firm for many years going forward. But it’s easy to get so caught up in the long game that you forget to tie it to specific business goals. This is a great piece from the Content Marketing Institute about how to start with business goals and then make sure you can tie your performance to those goals.
Good Writing is Always the Result of Bad Writing
The “creativity faucet” is a way of describing the process of getting all your bad ideas out there and as a result, letting your good ideas out too. It’s the same with writing: The best writing isn’t in the first draft—it’s in the third or fourth (or eighth) revision. If you want to write well, allow yourself to write without doing any self-editing in the first draft. It’s a very difficult skill to master, but, as MarketingProfs pro Ann Handley says, “The Ugly First Draft isn’t a pass you give yourself to produce substandard work. But it is a necessary part of the process of creating above-standard work.”
